NOV/DEC 2023 LIVE COURSES
Using a Compass, Divider and Ruler, we’ll learn how to draw a variety of geometric ornaments original to Morocco. In Morocco, the art of geometry is referred to as at-Tasṭīr and it means the 'art of straight lines'. Each Moroccan ornament and each geometric shape carries a special colloquial name and a story. These LIVE Workshops will unfold these untold methods and narratives and will shed light on the artisanal perspective.
This November and Decembre 2023, we will be doing a special 5 Classes series on the art of Moroccan brasswork. The series will feature five different geometric patterns from various buildings and items from Fes. In this series we will look at the history, techniques and sysmbolic meanings of brass ornaments. The early traces of the brass traditon in Fes dates back to the 11h C. AD and the famous Seffarine square was and is still the focal area around brass art. This series will also focus on the application of patterns when applied to different brass surfaces such as tea trays, doors and knockers. In addition to drawing, this series will also provide a lecture and demonstration on the technique of Moroccan brass engraving.
