The Art of Moroccan Geometric Ornaments

In Morocco, the art of geometry is referred to as at-Tasṭīr and it means the 'art of straight lines'. Each Moroccan ornament and each geometric shape carries a special colloquial name and a story. There are three traditional methods in drawing Moroccan geometry: Rshim (tracing), Qasma (division) and Hasba (calculation) (El Fasiki, 2023). CRAFT DRAFT courses will unfold these untold methods and narratives and will shed light on the artisanal perspectives.

Upcoming Online Courses

This course will examine traditional Moroccan geometric motifs of the ceramic tile spandrels of Essaouira's doors. The course will shed light on three different patterns: Mtemen (8-Fold), Tnashri ( 12-Fold) and Stashri (16-Fold) as evidenced in historical Moroccan doors.
